01
Phja Thấp · Nùng An

Incense

Made entirely by hand from bamboo, sawdust and the bark of the mạc rạt tree. In the dry season the drying yards turn scarlet with thousands of sticks fanned open in the sun. You are welcome to roll your own.

02
Phúc Sen · Nùng An

Blacksmiths

Nearly every house along the road is a forge. Knives are still drawn from recycled steel over a charcoal fire, without a single machine — and are prized across northern Vietnam.

03
Địa Trên · Nùng

Paper

Bark stripped and soaked for days, pounded to pulp, then lifted sheet by sheet on a bamboo screen. Used for calligraphy and ritual offerings — and now by artists in Hanoi. You can make a sheet and keep it.
